The measurement around a circle is called the circumference. This lesson is a fun way help your child discover the circumferences of different objects and chart his findings. Active children love to run here and there measuring items around the house and yard.
☞ What You Need:
Measuring tape or 2-foot length of string marked in inches, colored markers, ruler, circular things to measure
✩ Activity 1:
- Show your child how to measure around objects such as cans, balls, pans, flower pots, bottles, or his wrist, neck, or leg.
- Have him list the name of each item, along with its circumference. Help as needed. Explain how to round to the closest inch.
Make a chart, as shown below. Show your child how to chart the data.
