How Christopher Named ‘To Sleep in a Sea of Stars’

So just how did Christopher come up with the title of To Sleep in a Sea of Stars?

Well, he came up with the title at the same time he came up with the idea for the book itself. Up until that point, Christopher had written a number of novels with very short titles, and he wanted to do something that was the complete opposite of that—longer, more poetic. So he thought hard and “To Sleep in a Sea of Stars” was what sprang to mind. It’s not quite iambic pentameter, but Christopher feels it’s edging toward it. And, without spoiling anything, there’s a poem in the book which uses the title as a line and also provides some other phrases of note. Christopher loves the title, and he loves the feeling it evokes, and that’s what he was trying to capture with this book.
