Christopher Paolini drew the map of Alagaësia with a set of old Bic pens after realizing he needed a way to track the characters’ progress in their journeys. Since then it’s become an icon and fan favorite for those who love the Inheritance Cycle. Each print is produced with archival inks and paper, and then individually autographed by the author with a Sharpie.
This colored map of Alagaësia was made for Barnes & Noble’s exclusive edition of Eragon. This piece was created by Immanuela Meijer, who digitally hand-painted Christopher Paolini’s original map and designed the border, icons, and legend. When considering how to draw Thorn’s eye, Christopher knew it was important to capture the intensity of his gaze, as well as the spiky—or, ahem, the thorny—nature of his character.
