Just what does “in development” mean? Ever since fans caught wind of a potential Eragon TV show at Disney+, some folks have been asking what all of this Hollywood lingo actually means in terms of progress. Well . . .
Officially “in development” is the stage right before you go into pre-production and then, later, actual production on a film or television series. For the last two years, Christopher and Todd Harthan, showrunner, have wrapped their minds around the intricacies of the Inheritance Cycle and then drafted scripts with the goal of capturing the vast World of Eragon. All while adapting to the needs of a visual medium.
The series is coming closer to realization now, so Todd Helbing has come on board as co-showrunner. Kerry Williamson, whose most recent writing credits include the new Highlander film with Henry Cavill, has joined the writers room. Together these four intrepid creatives will craft the story backbone of the Eragon Disney+ series.
The biggest question of all: will Christopher have more creative control over this series? Yes. And so far, he’s happy with how the show is shaping up. He’ll keep fans apprised of what he can throughout the process.
This show has been a long time coming for fans. And it wouldn’t have happened without the tweetstorm and epic fan support over the years. So thank you! Just thinking that the film version was first produced in 2006 and now, twenty years later, the TV series is on the cusp of becoming a reality—it’s surreal, to say the least.
