Dragon Eyes – Thorn, Glaedr, and Shruikan

Much of the focus on Christopher’s artwork has been on his mesmerizing drawing of Saphira’s eye, which graces the cover of the self-published edition of Eragon. Had Christopher and his family continued producing the series themselves, there’s a good chance the other books’ covers would have featured other dragon eyes in the Inheritance Cycle, so today we thought we would highlight three: Thorn, Shruikan, and Glaedr.

As mentioned in previous Art Desk write-ups, sometimes Christopher already has a strong vision for the design of a piece, while in other instances, he has to create numerous mock-up sketches (below).

In addition to the fabulous artwork John Jude Palencar created for the series and Christopher’s drawings of the dragon eyes, what images would you put on the book covers to capture the essence of the Inheritance Cycle? Let us know on Facebook and Twitter!
