17-Year-Old Christopher: From the Archives

17-Year-Old Christopher

Take a trip back in time to visit 17-year-old Christopher in his room as he completes the first draft of his initial script for an Eragon movie. (The script was never produced.) Filmed around 2001 by Christopher’s sister, Angela, this footage was hidden in the family’s archives until it was recently unearthed by Christopher’s father, Kenneth.

Why share it now? Well, because it’s pretty surreal for Christopher—twenty years later—to be working on another batch of scripts featuring Eragon, Saphira, Roran, Murtagh and others . . . but this time for Disney+. And because it’s fun to share a laugh. 17-year-old Christopher was a gangly, homeschooled teenager who was still learning how to present himself. A little cringe and awkward to watch now, it also offers a glimpse into a different time in a rural place where a young boy dared to dream big.

You’ll see Christopher’s family’s home on the banks of the Yellowstone River, the snowy peaks in the background the original inspiration for the Spine. Then inside his room, an old Macintosh desktop he used to write the novels we’ve all come to know and love. Soundtracked with the epic choral piece “O Fortuna” from Orff’s Carmina Burana, naturally. (Christopher is still an avid lover of classical music to this day.) And a number of fans have noted that Christopher’s writing position is reminscent of L from Death Note. 😂 Accurate.

There are also plenty of tasty morsels to be found on Christopher’s social media accounts: X, Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Youtube, and BlueSky.

Until next time, Team Paolini wishes all of your dreams will come true.
